Great little course

Hard to play if you do not hit it straight. Lots of fun and great people at the club house. The views are out of this world. If you do not enjoy walking then this may not be for you. Give it a try!!!

I've only played the castle round (tracks 10-18) and was not disappointed. Curious and challenging due to the hilly terrain and the resulting restricted view. The confusing track layout is certainly not a problem from the second lap. If you're looking for the tee on hole 14, you've played the hole on hole 16 like me on hole 13, don't fret, laugh. The 14 is then behind the 17, past the hole of the 13😅. The men's tees 16 and 18 were on a common tee area above the women's tees, on the left edge of lane 10. Fantastic landscape, the castle towers over the square, the reception was very friendly and uncomplicated. Gastronomy good with a terrace and a very nice view. I'll be happy to play here again when I'm in Franconia. Recommended!!!

The course has already been described to us as "golfing Gaul", but clearly surpassed all stories: a maximally… capricious golf course. A MUST if you want to find variety.
The Burgrunde high up with a great view... at least of the castle, if hardly ever on the (blind) lanes. The Altmühlrunde as logic training with directional confusion, including tee-off. So you stay awake, even if the tracks are unspectacular and herbaceous.
Where the lane inventors of the Burgrunde had once planned quite a lot with golfing aspects, their descendants wanted to show unity at the Altmühlrunde, and that they could manage this (un) planning in memory of their ancestors on the second nine. (Operator golf course planners in the region would easily have packed twice as much, without Olympic-level confusion about tee-offs: there is theoretically enough space.) What is actually absolutely acceptable are the practice opportunities, which are often neglected elsewhere. Easy parking. Restaurant unfortunately off-putting (garlic) smelly, experienced in the reception, so that we could not sit there; but this was possibly an exception.
Colmberg and its castle are really very beautiful and worth seeing. The parking spaces at the golf course are free of charge for motor homes. So it is meant seriously that you should see this: 4 excursion stars.

We played the course for the first and probably last time in August 2021.
In terms of landscape, the first 9 holes are a highlight, the second 9 holes are less so.
What both halves had in common was the extremely poor condition of the fairways - if you can call them that.
If a ball is lost that is dead straight and can no longer be found in the high fairway, that says it all. The fairways had meadow character. Clover and dandelion making the ball vanish made every other hit a real gamble.
We criticized this after the round and the only statement from the overwhelmed gentleman was: "We have problems with the rain!". OK - that may be, but if you then ask for € 80 green fee (VcG) per week, the price-performance ratio doesn't fit at all.
The fact that the cart was also technically not in order matched the overall impression (despite being street legal, the brakes did not work properly and the indicators and horn did not work either).
The overall condition of the place was a disaster, to say the least.
In this condition, only the view is recommended, which is certainly cheaper when visiting the castle.

Burgrunde challenging... Altmühltalrunde flop

In the summer of 2019 we played this course and were very surprised by the Burgrunde. This is very challenging and a real challenge for physical condition and play ability (unless you are single-digit). It is very hilly and the lanes partly from the tee only partially visible (there are directional markings). Exact and wide deductions are required if you want to bring a reasonably ordinary score in the clubhouse. Unfortunately, here too the fairways were about to turn brown and hard. The greens were largely maintained but also here were already partially brown spots and some were very many pitch marks available. The view, however, is magnificent and with the castle as an eye-catcher, this round has a special charm.
In contrast, the second 9 on the Altmühltalrunde. The fairways were unplayable because they were rock hard and had huge cracks (so many ball we had to "rescue" from these columns). In addition, the terrain is completely flat and there is hardly any vegetation (you have to admit that these tracks are still very young). This comes in playable fairways certainly weaker players very contrary, making this round is easy to classify. Unfortunately, during our visit to a decent game was out of the question, since, strictly speaking, no fairways were present and the ball jumped uncontrollably in all directions or disappeared in one of the large columns. Only the greens were in perfect condition and optimal to play. Whether at the future summers ever a decent game is possible remains questionable.
The food and service are good. The green fee was too high for the condition of the second 9.
Conclusion: The first 9 (Burgrunde) are worth a visit. The second 9 (Altmühltalrunde) probably only in the spring or in a rainy summer (but probably rarer).

I have played this course or the first 9 (the Burgrunde) at the end of this year's record summer, accordingly dry and brown was the floor (not to compare with the picture on this page). Exceptional at the castle hill
